Seaworks Maritime Precinct Redevelopment
Williamstown: Seaworks Foundation (2016)
MCa was part of a project team that prepared a development plan and business case for the
staged redevelopment of this waterfront site that comprised shed and piers of a historic Harbour Trust Maintenance Depot.
Working with architects and project planners, MCa undertook a detailed analysis of current operations and finances of the precinct and scoped future operations of the site. This comprised events sheds; café; tavern; restaurant; container village; maritime work spaces; and event concepts to activate the precinct.
MCa modelled the future operations of Seaworks; prepared a business case and a regional economic impact assessment of proposed site redevelopment. Seaworks has been successful in securing Victorian Government funding for the first stages of the site redevelopment
Murujuga Tourism Development ( Karratha) : Parks WA Department of Parks & Wildlife & MAC (2017)
MCa is a member of the TRC project team that is preparing a feasibility study, master plan and business case for a tourism development in the Murujuga National Park. The development comprises a Living Knowledge Centre and camping ground, which would be operated by the Murujuga Aboriginal Corporation (MAC). MCa is involved in: analysing the market demand; modelling the operations of the facility; preparing a 10 year financial analysis; conducting an economic impact assessment of the development; and preparing a detailed Business Case, which meets the WA Government requirements for funding under the Royalties for Regions Program.

Phillip Island and San Remo Visitor Economy Strategy 2035 (2016)
MCa was part of the EarthCheck project team (including TRC and Jeremy Ward) that developed the Visitor Economy Strategy. MCa was involved in the modelling and analysis of key infrastructure projects including: a vehicle ferry; and accommodation options. This involved operational modelling and economic impact assessments of each of the projects. In the case of the ferry: a preliminary assessment was made of the potential market; operations were examined ; and the economic impacts were assessed for the construction phase and the operations phase.
Falls Creek Alpine Resort Altitude Training and Lifestyle facilities: Falls Creek Resort Management/Tourism Victoria (2011/12)
MCa worked with Biruu as part of a team assessing the feasibility of a facility for Falls Creek. We examined the potential demand for the facility from the sports training, adventure tourism , wellness and ski markets. Demand was assessed through surveys and detailed interviews with sports teams (AFL, NRL and Olympic squads) and operators involved in the other markets. We modelled the operations of a centre including pricing, revenue and operating costs; and completed an economic impact assessment of the proposed facilities on Falls Creek and the adjacent region.

Torquay Town Centre Development: Surf Coast Shire Council (2015)
MCa was engaged by the Shire Council to review the Torquay Town Centre and two other visitor precincts (Surf City and the Gateway site. This included a detailed analysis of business mix, land use and employment in the 3 precincts and an assessment of several major development projects. An assessment was made of potential developments on key sites and the implications for future economic activity and jobs. A detailed report was prepared which is guiding decisions on investment attraction and planning.
Fort Queenscliff Tourism Master Plan: Queenscliffe Borough Council (2015)
MCa was part of the specialist team led by TRC Tourism that developed the detailed plan for the redevelopment of the Fort as an active tourism precinct. Our role covered demand analysis and the modelling of proposed business activities on the site: visitor accommodation; bar and restaurant; café; museum; functions centre; and a program of events to activate the Fort and surrounding areas. We developed a model to estimate potential visitors to the site and completed an economic impact assessment of the proposed future use of the Fort. The Master Plan is being used in negotiations with the Department of Defence and other government agencies.

Newcastle City Economic Development Strategy 2014/15: Newcastle City Council
MCa was engaged by Newcastle City Council to conduct a detailed analysis of the city centre economy and major development projects covering residential, hotels, retail, commercial, education, and redevelopment of inner industrial sites. Following the completion of the city centre analysis a detailed economic strategy was prepared which is guiding decisions by the Council and the NSW State Government.
Upper Hunter Economic Diversification Project – Action Plan (2016/17)
MCa was engaged by the Department of Premier & Cabinet NSW to analyses the long term outlooks for mining, power generation and agribusiness in the Upper Hunter Region and develop an economic action plan. This involved preparation of sector reports, conduct of industry leader workshops and the preparation of a Strategy and Action Plan for the NSW Government. The action plan was adopted for implementation by the NSW Cabinet in May 2017

Hobart City Centre Development (2017)
MCa was engaged (with architects Terroir) to examine the economic impact of proposed changes in street and public space design in Hobart. The changes are designed to improve pedestrian movement between the harbor and city centre and to activate a series of precincts. MCa analysed: pedestrian traffic movements; land use and commercial space, type of businesses and employment clusters in city centre precincts; tourist visitor movements; and the likely impacts on precincts of the street and public space changes.
